 for the year

Amie
Hope

manager

Securing new accommodation for MECA so that our team and community have a wonderful new home!  Also, seeing many of our fabulous volunteers gain employment and move into the workforce.

Refugee Week. I had the pleasure of working with a wonderful planning team, in collaboration with Westfield Mt Druitt, to put together a successful event celebrating the contributions Refugees make to our Australian Society. This year’s Refugee Week event was one of the first of its kind in the Mt Druitt area and was a real celebration of the amazing diversity this community holds.

Daniel
Gobena

community & youth

Setting up the teenage boys mentoring program known as Make Your Mark (MYM) in collaboration with different service providers, teachers and mentors. I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to inspire and support young people to dream big and pursue it.

Yousef
Ammar

caseworker (arabic)

I achieved a major milestone in my role as a bilingual caseworker at MECA by inviting Hon Ed Husic MP to my Educational sessions and raised the concerns of refugee family unity,  job providers lack of services, Centrelink delays and misconduct, as well as overseas certificates and degree recognition.

Raeanne
Ali

caseworker (AFGHAN)

Working with clients to promote wellbeing and engagement with the community. It is great to work with new arrivals and introduce them to the community. Also the Women’s sewing class has been a hit. We are working on starting a second class.
